ITC Partners United Pensions Trustees & MTN for Ghana’s First Informal Pension On Mobile Money

With 12 out of 13 elderly persons not receiving regular pension money, and, 6 in 7 people in the labour force not covered by SSNIT, retirement is a daunting prospect for majority of Ghanaians.

It is for this reason that MTN Ghana and United Pensions Trustees, in collaboration with IT Consortium, have introduced ‘My Own Pension’ (MOP), a Mobile Money driven pensions platform, the first of its kind in Africa/Ghana.

The MOP is a three-tier pension scheme tailored to resolve the problem of financial insecurity among pensioners. It is aimed at providing Ghanaians, especially, those in the informal sector, a simple and convenient way to save and make voluntary pension contributions.

ITC is proud to have provided a robust and efficient platform that enables the roll out of this unique product. Our technology would enable the system to run smoothly in integrating, aggregating, transferring and consolidating data across two separate operating platforms in the telecommunication and pensions industry. It is user-friendly and can be easily accessed with a mobile phone.

This platform operates on the rules regulating Ghana’s pensions reform and incorporates the best practices to offer ethical and secure transactions in keeping with our corporate values.
